Urban Blues perform jazz standards, soul music and pop classics as a flexible 2-6 piece band and are available for any event. We are privileged to count Sir Paul McCartney among our many high profile clients. He personally chose us to provide the entertainment for his music publishing company's Christmas party - and liked us so much that he jumped on stage and sang 3 Beatles classics with us! We've also featured in the recent film "Brideshead Revisited" (starring Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon), played at the Sports Industry Awards (attended by the likes of David & Victoria Beckham), and for three years running we've flown out to Hong Kong to perform at the world famous 5* Intercontinental Hotel's New Year's Eve celebrations. Urban Blue can create a sophisticated atmosphere for your function or really get the party started on the dance floor – and we can do it all in the same evening! We can even provide harpists and string quartets as well to create the perfect contrast for your event. We can do it all! Urban Blues offers a range of booking options, including: 6 - Full band with vocals, piano, sax, guitar, drums and bass. 5 - vocals, piano, bass, drums and guitar 5 - vocals, piano, bass, drums and sax 5 - sax, piano, bass, drums and guitar 4 - vocals, piano, bass + drums 4 - sax, piano, bass and drums 3 - various 2 - sax + piano 2 - piano + bass 2 - vocals + piano 1 - solo piano If you want music for dancing, the minimum suitable is a 4 piece band. For background jazz any combination is good. Our guitarist sings so if you book a combo with guitar included you’ll have male vocals too. Party Music On a typical evening our singer will open with a jazz set including such favourites as Fly Me To The Moon, My Baby Just Cares For Me, Come Fly With Me, It Had To Be You, Girl From Ipanema and Summertime. Once you’re in the mood we’ll shift up a gear with pop and soul classics like Walk on By, Dock of The Bay, Son of A Preacher Man and Easy, before really getting the party going with dance floor fillers like Mustang Sally, Play That Funky Music, Billie Jean, Superstition and songs from the Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Van Morrison and James Brown. All your favourite pop and soul party tunes, given the Urban Blue flavour – a fat groove, soulful vocals and infectious energy. Background Music For a laid back sophisticated mood to accompany dinner or drinks, the Urban Blue vocal repertoire includes jazz and bossa nova standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as the easy listening songs of artists such as Norah Jones. If you don’t require a singer, our instrumental groups play jazz standards, smooth jazz grooves, latin music and classic ballads to create the perfect atmosphere for your event. You can request a duo, trio or quartet led by the saxophone or piano. We also provide solo cocktail piano. And if you can’t decide whether you want background music or party music - you can have both! A jazz quartet during cocktails or dinner, followed by the full band plus singer to get the dance floor packed in the evening - no problem. Harpist Our harpists have played with the likes of James Galway, Michael Buble, Katherine Jenkins and Barry Manilow. They can also boast numerous TV appearances, so you are assured of high-quality music and the professionalism you’d expect from Urban Blue. String Quartets Our string quartets have worked with many of the country’s top orchestras including the English Chamber Orchestra, The BBC Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and in the pop world with artists such as The Beach Boys, Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John, Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart and Ronan Keating, and performed at Buckingham Palace at the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002. |
