Kingsize was formed back in early '99 by Mark Pearson (Keyboardist) with its' name deriving from the 1950's Ska track of the same name (written by B Brooks - Baba Brooks and his band). The rest of the member line up derived from many X members from Skaboom, the UK's premier Ska band (gigging for 5-6 years all over GB) including Jon Read who had just finished a USA/European tour playing trumpet for 'The Specials'. Originally starting off as a 7 piece instrumental band we later introduced 2 more new members - Ming Nagel on Bass (replacing Jon read who longed for his trumpet) and Russ Coleman thus creating a powerful 5 piece brass frontline! Kingsize aim to bring back to audiences that solid, rhythmic and powerful Ska sound of the old time greats (and more recent ones!) and simply entertain the pants off you. If your feet don't tap and your body don't move - you're probably dead! |

About - The Human Internet, Nov 2000 "Being in the heart of the Midlands and not too far away from the home of Two Tone, Coventry, the reggae and Ska scene is alive and definately kicking! Over the last year, local band KINGSIZE (includes 4 members of SkaBoom and trumpet player from The Specials) are making it large in Leicester and surrounds. Having seen this band several times, with their awesome 5 piece brass section banging out classic Ska tracks, living next door to the mighty Skatalites! Check 'em out if they play near you - see Kingsize for details etc. Wicked stuff man!" City Lights (East Midlands Entertainment Magazine), Feb 2000 "The great thing about this venue is that they put on real bands, none of your one-man-and-a-bontempi-organ crap! Little did I realise what an awesomely cracking band I was about to witness - a rocksteady rhythm section, strong vocals and a whopping 5 piece brass section that just blew the house down! The audience skanked the night away to the glorious sounds of 60's ska, as well as a couple of more modern tunes. I thought their version of Joe 90 was brilliant! Kingsize's guitarist was just the dogs b****cks, adding some great little licks that added a real sparkle to their massive sound." Ben Cole LMS - Leicester Music Scene (UK web site) -Aug 1999 June 1999, and Kingsize explode onto the music scene with their foot-stompin' arrangements of the finest original ska sounds around, guaranteed to keep this infectious beat alive into the next millennium! Four members of the UK's top ska outfit, Skaboom were joined by The Specials room-wreckin' multi intrumentalist, Jon Read and Leicester's very own Satriani, guitar wizard, John 'Juan Halen' Harris. With the signing of U.S. import Ming Nagel completeting the steamin' hot rhythm section, the room-rippin' 'bone of Cisca Collins in the mighty brass section, the heavy monster Kingsize sound was completed. Their brand of authentic Stio One Ska and re-worked classics has already kicked some butt on the live circuit, total world domination is a skank away!"
